Our client tasked us with designing a residential scheme consisting of six individual private-sale three-bedroom apartments. Through workshops with the client, we evaluated the proportions of the building’s existing elevation and experimented with a range of material finishes for the proposed scheme. This process challenged our design thinking and sense of creativity.

The building’s conceptual arrangement is an efficient L-shape, with an additional smaller element attached to the Gateway elevation to address the site’s awkward angle. Despite the site’s challenges, the client wanted us to maximize residents’ views and create a scheme that represented the area’s new masterplan.

The building occupies a prominent location on the corner of Onaolapo Soleye Close Road and converges upon a change in topography. Our goal was to design a building that celebrates the area’s history and utilizes the site’s views along the road.

To maintain the design approved at planning, we carefully selected a refined palette of materials. The challenges were to incorporate high-quality textured blockwork that complements the context. To ensure quality, each concrete block was specifically moulded with the appropriate cement-sand-water ratio, with the aid of modern technology and machines.
